Stardust: Johnny Flynn to Play Young David Bowie in New Film

Johnny Flynn (Beast) is set to portray a young David Bowie in the upcoming movie Stardust, Variety has confirmed. The film will center on the rock star’s first visit to the U.S. in 1971.

Actor, poet, and musician, Flynn currently stars opposite Kit Harrington (Game of Thrones) in Sam Shepherd’s play True West, a story focusing on warring brothers, at the Vaudeville Theatre in London. His recent credits also include Genius, Vanity Fair, Clouds of Sils Maria, and Lovesick. He will next be seen in Emma, the Jane Austen Adaptation alongside Anya Taylor-Joy.

Marc Maron (Glow, Almost Famous) will play Bowie’s record company publicist in Stardust, with Golden Globe nominee Jena Malone (Hope, Vice) starring as Angie, Bowie’s wife at the time.

Gabriel Range (I Am Slave) will direct from a script by Christopher Bell (The Last Czars). Salon Pictures is producing with Christopher Figg of Piccadilly Pictures co-financing. Principal photography is scheduled to begin this June.
