Patty Jenkins Expects Wonder Woman 3 To Be Set in Contemporary Times

Patty Jenkins dropped a few major nuggets of information about Wonder Woman 3 in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter while promoting her TNT series I Am the Night, chief among them being that the battle hardened warrior’s third solo outing will likely take place in contemporary times.

“I’m not set, but I’m not doing another period piece,” Jenkins said in the interview.

She also teased the idea of setting the film in the future. “It’s definitely one of the things we talked about. I’m not planning to put it in the past again, because where are you going to go? You have to go forward. It’s definitely a contemporary story. That’s all I can say. Where we put it and how that gets figured out, I haven’t totally nailed down.”

Obviously, we’ve already seen Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman stand alongside Batman and Superman in the modern era in Dawn of Justice and Justice League, but those are certainly different from what Jenkins would bring to a similar contemporary setting.

As for whether or not she would consider directing a DC team up movie, Jenkins was a bit more cryptic.

“The Justice League movie, I find those movies to be extremely challenging. I think they are fantastic when they are well done,” said Jenkins. “But taking on all of those characters at the same time in the timeline. … I sort of hope that we don’t do a Justice League movie for a little while because I’m excited to see all of their movies. I want to see Aquaman 2, I want to see Flash.”
