Anne Hathaway and Tim Robbins Join Mark Ruffalo’s DuPont Drama

Following the casting of Mark Ruffalo (Avengers: Infinity War) in the lead role for the upcoming drama based on Nathaniel Rich’s New York Times Magazine article “The Lawyer Who Became DuPont’s Worst Nightmare,” Participant Media has announced the additions of Anne Hathaway (Ocean’s 8) and Tim Robbins (Here and Now) to the cast.

The film, currently untitled, will center on Robert Bilott, a corporate defense attorney as he takes on one of the most prolific cases in his career: an environmental suit against the chemical company DuPont, as they’re exposed for a decades-long history of chemical pollution.

The story is being scripted by Matthew Carnahan (House of Lies) and Mario Correa with the Oscar-nominated director Todd Haynes (Carol) helming the project and Ruffalo producing alongside Killer Films’ Pamela Koffler and Christine Vachon, while Participant’s Jeff Skoll and Jonathan King executive producing and Bilott serving as a consultant to the story.

In addition to Hathaway and Robbins, the film has expanded its all-star cast with the additions of Emmy-nominees Bill Camp (Vice), Victor Garber (Legends of Tomorrow), Oscar-nominee Mare Winningham (The Affair), William Jackson Harper (The Good Place) and Bill Pullman (The Sinner).

Hathaway was most recently seen in the heist thriller spin-off Ocean’s 8 and will next be seen in the upcoming neo-noir thriller Serenity alongside Matthew McConaughey (White Boy Rick), which is set to hit theaters on January 25, and the female-centered remake of the 1988 film Dirty Rotten ScoundrelsThe Hustle, alongside Rebel Wilson (Isn’t It Romantic), which is set to hit theaters on May 10.

Robbins, who is best-known for his starring role in the 1994 prison drama The Shawshank Redemption, was most recently seen in the short-lived HBO comedy The Brink and drama Here and Now, both of which only lasted one season, and the acclaimed 2017 sci-fi film Marjorie Prime.

Production on the currently untitled drama is set to begin in Cincinnati sometime next week.
