Sinister 2 is in the Works, Insidious Chapter 2 Pushed Back

Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill, the duo behind last fall’s Sinister, are returning for Sinister 2. The duo will pen the next entry for Blumhouse Productions, but it doesn’t appear Derrickson will be back to direct. Instead, he’ll co-write and also produce alongside Jason Blum.

In the first film, Ethan Hawke played a true crime novelist struggling to find his next big story who discovers a box of home videos showing other families being brutally murdered, but his investigation soon leads him to a supernatural entity that may be placing his own family in harm’s way. The $3 million film grossed $77.7 million worldwide.

In other horror news, FilmDistrict has pushed back James Wan’s Insidious Chapter 2 for a August 30 release to September 20. On its new date, the sequel faces Warner Bros.’ Prisoners and Universal’s Rush. The first Insidious earned $97 million worldwide on a budget of just $1.5 million.
