CS Video Interview: Suraj Sharma, Star of Life of Pi

Every year, there are new names and faces appearing in major studio movies, and as with many of Ang Lee’s previous films, his adaptation of Yann Martel’s novel Life of Pi introduces us to one of them, a fantastic young talent named Suraj Sharma, a young man with no previous acting experience until he was cast in the film.

Sharma’s story is as remarkable as the journey of the character he plays. The film documents Pi surviving a shipwreck to end up adrift at sea with only a large Bengal tiger named Richard Parker as his companion.

A few weeks back, ComingSoon.net got to sit down with Sharma for one of his very first interviews to talk about taking on the role of the title character in such a beloved novel.

In the video interview below, we spoke to the charming young actor about:

* The audition process and how he got the role in the prestigious film

* How he didn’t know how to swim before getting the part

* How playing the role changed his life

* Reading the book and wondering how they might do some of the things

* The order in which Ang Lee shot the movie

* What he learned in the “Ang Lee Acting Boot Camp”

* Working with the tigers, both real and CG

* How involved Ang Lee is in all aspects of the filmmaking

* The impact Ang Lee had on him and the Indian ceremony they had to solidify their relationship

* Ang Lee’s calming nature and how that played into making the movie
