On Friday, August 5, Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer will see if he can go two for two when his action-comedy 30 Minutes or Less opens nationwide. Besides reteaming Fleischer with Jesse Eisenberg following his Oscar nomination for David Fincher’s The Social Network, it also features a trip of comic actors who have been growing in popularity in recent years from both movie and TV work: Aziz Ansari, Danny McBride and Nick Swardson.
Eisenberg plays pizza delivery Nick who is knocked out by two masked thugs, played by McBride and Swardson, who proceed to strap a bomb on him and force him to rob a bank so they can pay off a hired assassin, played by Michael Peña. Panicked, Nick calls upon his best friend Chet (Ansari) to help him rob the bank, although the two had a falling out when Chet learns that Nick has hooked up with his twin sister. It’s slightly more complicated (and raunchy) than the typical high concept comedy we’ve seen this summer, but if you liked Horrible Bosses, that’s a good starting point with a lot more action (and action that’s better integrated with the comedy, too.) You can read our review of the movie here.
ComingSoon.net got in front of the camera with the main four members of the cast–Jesse Eisenberg, Aziz Ansari, Danny McBride and Nick Swardson–to talk about making the movie, everything from its insanely fast pace, the stunt driving and how raunchy the guys were able to get with the amount of freedom Fleischer gave them to improvise.
