CS Video: Meet LAIKA’s Deborah Cook and Georgina Hayns

Last week, we brought you the first part in a series of behind-the-scenes videos that ComingSoon.net has cut together from our recent visit to LAIKA, the Portland-based animation studio that, following an Academy Award nomination for The Boxtrolls, is today delivering the stop motion film to Blu-ray and DVD. The Boxtrolls, LAIKA’s third feature, hails from directors Graham Annable and Anthony Stacchi and is based on the book “Here Be Monsters!” by Alan Snow. It takes the hard work of quite a few more talented people, however, to ultimately bring The Boxtrolls to life.

In the players below, you can check out extended behind-the-scenes interviews with Deborah Cook, LAIKA’s Costume Designer, and Georgina Hayns, Creative Supervisor of Puppet Fabrication, as they show off the incredible, intricate and imaginative hands-on work for which LAIKA’s name has become synonymous.

Be sure to also check out our recent video featuring key LAIKA talents Steve Emerson, VFX Supervisor, Brian McLean, Director of Rapid Prototyping and man of many hats (not the least of which are LAIKA President and CEO) Travis Knight. Also, if you missed them in the past, read about our initial visit to the Boxtrolls set and check out our Boxtrolls junket interviews with Annable and Stacchi alongside voice talents Sir Benjamin Kingsley and Elle Fanning

Based on the book “Here Be Monsters!” by Alan Snow, The Boxtrolls is set in a cheese-loving town called Cheesebridge, and follows the adventures of a young orphaned boy, Eggs (Ian Hempstead-Wright), who finds himself lovingly raised by the titular creatures. Together, they all live beneath the streets and come up only at night to steal whatever objects they can find. That is, until Eggs crosses path with a young girl, Winnie (Fanning), and comes face to face with Archibald Snatcher (Kingsley), the leader of a vile gang that hope to capture the Boxtrolls and trade them for social acceptance.
