L'Avventura
Winner of Cannes' Grand Jury Prize in 1960 (and nominated for the Palme d'Or), Michelangelo Antonioni's groundbreaking black and white drama explores themes of alienation in the first of an unofficial trilogy that also includes 1961's La Notte and 1962's L'Eclisse (both of which are also available on Blu-ray from The Criterion Collection).

The Conformist
Bernardo Bertolucci's 1970 masterpiece finally gets a Blu-ray release this week. That means that, outside of a theater, Vittorio Storaro's awe-inspired visuals have never looked better. Raro Video gives The Conformist the HD treatment, backing the Oscar-nominated film with "In the Shade of the Conformist," an hourlong analysis of Bertolucci and his filmmaking history.

The Expendables 3
Sylvester Stallone and his ensemble team of cinematic action heroes are back for a third Expendables adventure, with Wesley Snipes joining in on the fun to take on a big bad played by Mel Gibson.
Earlier this week , Stallone called the film's PG-13 a "horrible miscalculation," which may help explain why the sequel's home release also includes an extended and unrated version.

The Giver
Originally planning to cast his father in the title role, Jeff Bridges has been trying for decades to bring Lois Lowry's dystopic novel to the big screen. This week, the final film is landing on Blu-ray with a wide variety of special features, including a 20-year-old look at Lloyd Bridges doing a reading of the screenplay.

The Long Goodbye
The perfect film to rewatch before checking out Paul Thomas Anderson's latest, Inherent Vice , The Long Goodbye finally hits Blu-ray this week, courtesy of Kino Video. Elliot Gould stars as P.I. Philip Marlowe in Robert Altman's 1973 offbeat mystery thriller based on the novel by Raymond Chandler.

A Merry Friggin' Christmas
Tragically one of the final performances of the Robin Williams, A Merry Friggin' Christmas features the legendary star opposite Joel McHale ("Community") and Lauren Graham ("Gilmore Girls") in the darkly comic story of an estranged father and son forced together during the holidays.

The November Man
Pierce Brosnan headlines this recently spy thriller from director Roger Donaldson (The Bank Job ). Based on the novel "There Are No Spies," by Bill Granger, The November Man hits Blu-ray with a Brosnan/Donaldson commentary track and several featurettes.

Nymphomaniac, Extended Director's Cut Volume I and Volume II
