The supernatural horror film Evil Dead Burn, the sixth installment in the Evil Dead series, has received a box office prediction that is consistent with the performance of recent entries in the franchise. Directed and co-written by Sébastien Vaniček, the movie follows a family who grieves the death of a mother’s son and return to their secluded home when some of them begin turning into ghoulish Deadites. The May trailer for the film reveals that one of the family members begins reading from a book of the dead, likely in an attempt to revive the dead son. Evil Dead Rise was originally slated to release in the United States on July 24, but it was recently moved up two weeks to July 10.
Evil Dead Burn is off to a good start in early box office predictions
An early box office forecast for Evil Dead Rise has the horror film earning in the range of $21 million to $30 million in its domestic opening weekend from July 10 to July 12. Over the course of its full theatrical run in the US and Canada, it is projected to bring in somewhere between $45 million and $75 million.
This prediction comes from a June 5 analysis from BoxOfficeTheory, which is encouraged by the success of the Evil Dead franchise among today’s horror fans. These numbers fall in line with what 2013’s Evil Dead and 2023’s Evil Dead Rise earned at the box office, with the former having a $25.7 million domestic start on route to a $97 million worldwide haul and the latter beginning with a $24.5 million domestic opener on its way to a $147 million total.
Directed by Lee Cronin, who most recently came out with his interpretation of The Mummy franchise, Evil Dead Rise was a fantastic box office hit given its relatively low production budget of $15 million to $19 million. At the time of writing, the official budget for Evil Dead Burn has not been released, but given that the Evil Dead reboot in 2013 was also made on $17 million, this upcoming entry is expected to have a similar cost to both those films. If this estimate holds, that would keep expectations for Evil Dead Burn on the lower end, with the New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Pictures production conservatively aiming for a roughly $50 million global cume for the film.
The report notes that Evil Dead Burn has “drawn positive reactions” in early trailers and industry screenings (the film held an advance screening on February 24). Meanwhile, the latest trailer for the horror flick received over 750,000 views and 29,000 likes on YouTube. Comments on the trailer have praised its strong color grading and solid camera work, with fans of the franchise hoping to see the film on the silver screen (as opposed to streaming).
On another positive note, Evil Dead Burn has been positioned carefully in the packed summer theatrical calendar. By the middle of July, the movie will be able to sidestep the historic box office runs of Obsession and Backrooms. The film will be the main entry in the horror genre until the release of Ice Cream Man and The Last House in early August. On the downside, Evil Dead Burn comes out on the same day as the live-action Moana (July 10) and only one week before Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey (July 17), though the hope is that the horror flick will serve as counter-programming against these two blockbusters.
The cast for Evil Dead Burn includes Souheila Yacoub, Tandi Wright, Hunter Doohan, Luciane Buchanan, and Erroll Shand. Another mainline entry in the franchise, Evil Dead Wrath, is slated to release theatrically in April 2028.
