K-pop group Super Junior debuted almost two decades ago. The group has released over 12 studio albums and four extended plays in their long career. Rumors regarding the group’s disbandment have been surfacing for a long time. Now, group member Kim Heechul has come forward to debunk the disbandment rumors and share updates on the group’s activities before their 20th anniversary.

Super Junior has ten active members – Leeteuk, Heechul, Yesung, Shindong, Sungmin, Eunhyuk, Siwon, Donghae, Ryeowook, and Kyuhyun. While all the members participate in group activities, Donghae, Eunhyuk, and Kyuhyun have not renewed their solo contracts with SM Entertainment after 2023.

Kim Heechul shares major update on Super Junior’s disbandment status

Kim Heechul recently appeared on MBC’s Radio Star and spilled the tea on what’s happening ahead of Super Junior’s 20th anniversary. The 40-year-old admitted that he felt the risk of disbandment as Super Junior was negotiating a contract renewal with SM. Heechul stated (originally in Korean), “The atmosphere of the meeting was fierce.”

Heechul also mentioned the founder of SM Entertainment, saying, “I renewed my contract after seeing Mr. Lee Soo-man, and he left (referring to Lee Soo Man’s existence from SM Entertainment). So far, Super Junior has not confirmed any news of their disbandment.

Super Junior released their last studio album, The Road, on January 6, 2023. The album came in two parts, The Road: Keep On Going and The Road: Celebration, with ten tracks. It sold over 88,376 copies within the first week of its release, peaking at number nine on South Korea’s Circle Album chart.

After the studio album’s release last year, fans are eager to see the group perform live, and Super Junior has shared positive news regarding that. The “Sorry, Sorry” crooners will go on an Asia tour, starting with a concert in Seoul in June.

Super Junior’s 2024 concerts, titled “2024 SUPER JUNIOR SUPER SHOW SPIN-OFF: Halftime,” will include stops in Bangkok and Singapore in July, Kuala Lumpur and Taipei in August, and Hong Kong and Jakarta in September.
