Exhuma dominated the night with four wins out of eight nominations. Lee Do-Hyun won Best New Actor, Jang Jae-Hyun for Best Director, and Kim Byung for Best Technical Achievement (Sound). However, Go-Eun’s win was the highlight as this was her second win after Cheese in the Trap.
Kim Go-Eun delivers an emotional acceptance speech
Kim Go-Eun delivered an emotional acceptance speech and thanked her director, co-stars, and crew for considering her for Hwarim’s role. She also expressed her gratitude for her fans and highlighted the positive impact Exhuma had on her, as it helped her heal significantly.
Kim Go-Eun’s character, Hwarim, deals with the unknown. She played her role with finesse in Exhuma, a horror-thriller focusing on folklore and occult practices back then.
The story starts with Hwarim, a shaman, treating a baby from a wealthy family only to learn of its ability to hear the cries of its ancestors. She later discovers that the baby’s father and grandfather have the same ability. Intrigued by the case, she decides to investigate it further.
The narrative then takes the characters to the Korean War, where Hwarim teams up with Bong-Gil (Lee Do-Hyun), her assistant, Kim Sang-Deok (Choi Min-Sik), who is a geomancer, and Young-Geun (Yoo Hai-Jin). How they solve the case is what forms the rest of the narrative.
Baeksang Arts Awards 2024 aired on JTBC, JTBC2, JTBC4 and PRIZM. The event was a star-studded affair.
