My Name is Loh Kiwan trailer teases Song Joong-Ki & Choi Sung-Eun’s intense first meeting

The trailer for the upcoming Netflix Korean film My Name is Loh Kiwan begins with the central character, Loh Kiwan, introducing himself. He talks about making it far by enduring all the hell in his life. Meanwhile, a Netflix report gives context about Loh Kiwan’s story. After escaping from China, the North Korean defector hopes to fulfill his mother’s dying wish. She wanted him to find a place where he could live on his own terms, with his own name.

After his mother’s death, Loh Kiwan sets foot in Belgium with whatever he has left. Although he tries to earn refugee status and start his life again, he discovers that the application itself might take a few months. With no means to earn and no place to live, he faints, exhausted. This is when he crosses paths with Marie, who steals his wallet.

Meanwhile, as per Netflix’s report. Marie used to represent the Belgian national shooting team. However, her life turns upside down as her inner demons and mental health struggles get the best of her. Eventually, Loh Kiwan finds Marie, ordering her to give him his wallet back. He further explains that the money in the wallet came from “selling his mother’s corpse.” From then on, the two begin to bond over shared traumas and experiences.

Marie reveals that she also lost her mother during the winter, just like Loh Kiwan. She continues to suffer from bouts of mental health issues and tries to kill herself several times. However, Loh Kiwan rescues her every time. Meanwhile, her father, Yoon Sung (Cho Han-Cheul), asks Kiwan to stay away from Marie. Explaining that his daughter is mentally unstable, he wishes for a more stable man, unlike Kiwan, to be with Marie.

Just like Kiwan rescues Marie, the latter fights against officials to ensure he stays back. In a conversation, she explains that Kiwan would die if he returned to where he came from. The rest of the trailer documents their increasing closeness and the will to save each other from their respective traumas.

To witness their journey, don’t forget to tune in to My Name is Loh Kiwan on Friday, March 1, 2024, on Netflix.
