Netflix and tvN recently aired Captivating the King Episode 8, starring Jo Jung-Suk as King Lee In and Shin Se-Kyung as Kang Hee-Soo/Kang Mong-Woo. The storyline currently revolves around baduk player Mong-Woo returning to the King’s life to seek revenge.
In episode 7, King Lee In catches Kim Myung-Ha (Lee Shin-Young) and Mong-Woo hugging each other. Although he lets the matter slide, he seems jealous of their bond. Towards the end, Lee In saves Mong-Woo in a sword fight and confesses that he likes his baduk player.
Captivating the King Episode 8 begins with Mong-Woo being shocked at the King’s confession. A few court maids gossip about Lee In liking men, and soon, the rumor spread around the town. Later in the installment, King Lee In discovers the truth about Mong-Woo.
Captivating the King Episode 8 spoilers: Jo Jung-Suk discovers Shin Se-Kyung’s Mong-Woo is a woman
The Captivating the King Episode 8 features Mong-Woo/Hee-Soo accompanying King Lee In with the Grand Prince on a trip. It is when he confesses his likeness towards the baduk player. Rumors about the king’s affection towards Mong-Woo spread around the kingdom.
Lee In, on the other hand, decides to ignore the rumors, but his actions say otherwise. He gets worried when Mong-Woo is hurt and calls the royal physician for her. But she refuses, as it will expose her identity. While playing baduk, Lee In brings her medicine, leaving the King’s guard in an awkward position. The rumors do not sit well with the ministers, and they decide to file a petition.
In Captivating the King Episode 8, Kim Myung-Ha informs Mong-Woo about it. He claims that the baduk player is Lee In’s favorite and, hence, may also get in trouble. Mong-Woo responds by saying that she is only focused on her revenge and not any rumors.
Meanwhile, the villagers further gossip about King Lee In and his relationships with his concubine and the Queen. He has never spent a night with any of them, putting the future of his throne in jeopardy. However, the reason behind Lee In’s reluctance to become a parent is his promise to his dying brother, the late King. He promised the former King that he would rule the kingdom until the Grand Prince became eligible to take over the throne.
Lee In’s concubine requests him to get her pregnant. When he refuses, she seeks his mother’s help. Lee In’s mother gives Lee In a royal command to spend a night with his concubine. When that night comes, a guard following Mong-Woo brings news that she has disappeared.
King Lee In leaves his concubine and rushes to find Mong-Woo. He finds his baduk player drunk, sleeping under a tree. When he brings her to a chamber, he tries to undress her to make her feel comfortable. For context, he doesn’t know yet that Mong-Woo is a woman. But the truth comes out that night in Captivating the King Episode 8.
Captivating the King Episode 8 ending: Jo Jung-Suk & Shin Se-Kyung share their first kiss
In Captivating the King Episode 8 ending, King Lee In tries to undress Mong-Woo. The latter wakes up and stops him from going any further. It seems too late to come up with an excuse before the King realizes the truth.
Shocked, he gets up and decides to punish her fatally. Mong-Woo asks to grant her last wish and kisses him. The episode ends with the lead characters sharing their first kiss passionately.
