Captivating the King Episode 2 Recap: Jo Jung-Suk Gets Hurt Because of Shin Sae-Kyung

Starring Jo Jung-Suk and Shin Sae-Kyung, Captivating the King episode 2 aired on Sunday on Netflix and tvN. The K-drama premiered this weekend with a storyline revolving around a lonely prince and an incredible baduk player.

In episode 1, Jung-Suk’s character, Prince Lee In, serves his time in the Qing Dynasty as a hostage. After he returns to Joseon, his brother, King Lee Sun, is brainwashed into thinking that Lee In spied on him. Amid the political drama, the prince meets an unknown baduk player and desires to play with him. After the baduk player, Kang Hee-Soo (Sae-Kyung), who is disguised as a man, learns Lee In is a prince, she keeps avoiding him. 

Episode 2 begins with the prince saving Hee-Soo from a group of thugs. He gets injured while protecting the baduk player.

In Captivating The King episode 2, Hee-So, disguised as a male baduk player, gets worried about the prince. She enters his chamber to peek at him when he opens his eyes, creating a romantic atmosphere. Hee-So thanks him and also says sorry as he got hurt because of her.

Jo Jung-Suk’s Prince Lee In asks her to repay him by playing a game of baduk with him. Earlier, she mentioned that she wished to play the game with Lee In, the only player in the town who could beat her. Thus, when he proposes a game, she gives in. They play it for hours, and finally, the prince announces that he lost. He asks her to demand a prize for her win, and she requests him to give her the nickname ‘Mongwoo,’ which means drizzle.

When he asks for their next game, she says she will play with him on the first drizzle. Sae-Kyung’s character gets curious about Lee In and realizes that she might be developing feelings for him. She also accepts that he won the game but pretends to lose to her. Later, when the two meet again, the baduk player promises Lee In to play another game to redeem herself on the first drizzle of rain.

Meanwhile, the King’s health deteriorates. The queen and her side of the people try to manipulate him against Prince Lee In. Despite knowing the growing hatred against him, the prince does not participate in hidden agendas against the throne.

Captivating The King episode 2 ending: Shin Sae-Kyung’s true identity in jeopardy

Captivating The King episode 2 is a mix of romance and historical political drama. While the war between Joseon and the Qing dynasty continues, the internal battle inside the palace worsens the situation. The queen and her followers do not leave a stone unturned in achieving the goal of the throne.

In order to gain allies, the queen proposes a marriage between her nephew, Kim Myung-Ha, and Chief State Councilor Kang Hang-Soon’s daughter, Hee-So (Shin Sae-Kyung). However, Hong-Soon is on Prince Lee In’s side. While he cannot refuse the queen, he lets her daughter decide. She denies the proposal, especially after Myung-Ha fails to beat her in the baduk game. On the other hand, he is determined to marry her.

Towards the end of Captivating The King episode 2, Myung-Ha learns that the famous baduk player is Hee-So disguised as a man. The end shows Hee-So rushing to meet Lee In on the first drizzle of rain. As they face each other in beautiful weather, Myung-Ha steps in and greets Hee-So. She looks startled while the prince wonders how close the two are.
