The new romantic K-drama Between Him and Her debuted on Channel A and Viki on Tuesday, December 26, 2023. The series stars South Korean actors Lee Dong-Hae and Lee Seol as the lead pair—Jung Hyun-Seong and Han Seong-Ok. Park Sang-Min and Lee Yoo-Yeon have served as directors of the K-drama.
Adapted from Hyeono’s popular webtoon of the same name, Between Him and Her revolves around the romantic relationship between Han Seong-Ok and Jung Hyun-Seong, who become estranged after seven years of being together. Episode 1 of the series highlights how the couple’s relationship has become dull after seven years. It also displays them drifting apart due to several mistakes.
Between Him and Her episode 1: Lee Dong-Hae and Lee Seol drift apart after seven years of being together
The first episode of Between Him and Her begins by showcasing Lee Dong-Hae’s Jung Hyun-Seong and Lee Seol’s Han Seong-Ok as a couple whose relationship has worn out after seven years. The two have been together since their high school days and are passionate about their work, which is designing clothes and jewellery. They have also launched a street fashion brand named H2.
Jung Hyun-Seong primarily looks after the brand while he faces difficulties in gaining popularity among customers despite its high quality. Meanwhile, Han Seong-Ok works in the marketing department of a jewellery brand company for financial reasons. However, her true passion lies in designing jewellery, and she aspires to become a professional jewellery designer.
From the beginning, the audience sees the couple getting irritated with one another as they become tired of their relationship. They live together but do not connect on a deeper level as they used to in their previous years. Episode 1 showcases that Jung Hyun-Seong is more indulged in watching soccer games with his friend in their apartment, where he and Han Seong-Ok live together.
He is also always busy with his work as he tries to collaborate with a popular company named Winders, so he is preparing for it. Meanwhile, Han Seong-Ok gets called out at work for designing jewellery instead of working on a marketing project. Throughout the episode, the two start to grow apart due to work and financial pressures. It is evident from their behaviors and verbal exchanges that their relationship has lost its spark.
Lee Dong-Hae & Lee Seol end up committing huge mistakes
Towards the end of Between Him and Her episode 1, Lee Dong-Hae’s Jung Hyun-Seong signs a deal with Winders. However, he discards the deal when the CEO of the company tells him that they are only interested in the clothing part of their brand and not the jewellery department, which Han Seong-Ok looks after.
However, when Jung Hyun-Seong tries to explain it to Han Seong-Ok, a misunderstanding occurs, and the two end up having a huge argument. After that, Jung Hyun-Seong goes for drinks with his friends. While there, he gets drunk and cheats on Han Seong-Ok with another girl in a motel.
After some time, he regrets his actions and tries to leave the motel. He takes the elevator of the motel to come down. When the elevator door opens, he sees Han Seong-Ok waiting with another man by her side. He soon realizes that she is also about to cheat on him. The first episode of Between Him and Her ends right there.
