My Dearest Part 2 Episode 20 recap: Jang-Hyun’s final goodbye to Gak Hwa

My Dearest Part 2 Episode 20 aired on Friday on MBC. It began with Lee Jang-Hyun (Namkoong Min) regaining his memories. He and Yoo Gil-Chae (Ahn Eun-Jin) share a heart-fluttering moment.

The episode further featured Jang-Hyun finding out about the Crown Prince’s death. Later, Gak Hwa, (Lee Chung-Ah) princess of the Qing dynasty, arrived at Gil-Chae’s house and asked for Jang-Hyun. For context, the latter earlier promised Gak Hwa that he would return to her forever if she would let Joseon prisoners go home. But his amnesia broke the promise and thus Gak Hwa came to find him.

Scared Gil-Chae requested Gak Hwa to help Jang-Hyun and the prisoners set free. The princess of the Qing dynasty met Joseon King Injo and demanded that they wanted Jang-Hyun as the interpreter. This was how the King found out the true identity of Jang-Hyun and that he was close to the late Crown Prince. Once the King made the deal with Gak Hwa, Jang-Hyun gave his and the Crown Prince’s properties to the princess of the Qing Dynasty. In return, he earned the freedom of all the prisoners while bidding farewell to Gak Hwa.

K-drama My Dearest Part 2 Episode 20 ended with tears of joy and celebration in Joseon. Jang-Hyun and Gil-Chae hug each other while enjoying the celebration. The finale episode will reveal whether or not their happiness will last.

My Dearest Part 2 Episode 21 premieres on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at 9:40 p.m. KST on MBC.
