Backstreet Rookie Ending Explained: Does Ji Chang-Wook End Up With Kim You-Jung?

Backstreet Rookie is one of the K-dramas that will melt your heart and will also leave you hanging with expectations. Starring Ji Chang-Wook and Kim You-Jung in the lead, the drama is directed by Lee Myung-Woo. In addition to them, the drama also stars Kim Min-Gue, Ahn Sol-Bin, and others.

The storyline revolves around 22-year-old Jung Saet-Byul (You-Jung), who is a beautiful girl with charisma, fighting skills, and love for others. A lot of boys eye Saet-Byul but she only has eyes for Choi Dae-Hyun, a convenience store owner. Years ago, they had an unforgettable incident, after which Saet-Byul applied for a part-time job at his store. Slowly, a love story between them starts to bloom. Backstreet Rookie: Is it a happy or a sad ending?

Spoilers ahead. The finale episode of Backstreet Rookie begins with Choi Dae-Hyun (Ji Chang-Wook) finding Saet-Byul who seems to have disappeared from the room. She left a letter explaining why she left. However, after everything, Dae-Hyun couldn’t stand still and went to the police station to try to find her. But his efforts go in vain. In the meantime, she goes to work on a farm with the money she got from Real Estate. On the other hand, when Dal-Sik and Geum-Bi go on a trip, on their way back, Dal-Sik finds Saet-Byul working on a farm. He immediately informs Dae-Hyun who rushes over to meet her.

Dae-Hyun confesses that it’s just the beginning for them. After facing the thugs, they reminisce about their past and reflect on their relationship. Then Dae-Hyun returns after asking her not to change her address. Meanwhile, Saet-Byul gets a permanent position at the farm. On the other hand, Dae-Hyun turns down Yeon-Joo and even hands over his resignation. He goes back to running a convenience store. Yeon-Joo also accepts it. Dae-Hyun also opens up to his parents about Saet-Byul’s (Kim You-Jung) disappearance. Ji Chang-Wook moves the audience with his heart-touching acting skills in this scene.

In the meantime, Saet-Byul gets a message about her passing the GED. But to get the certificates, she has to go to Dae-Hyun’s house. She sneakily gets inside the house but learns that Dae-Hyun quit his job. She rushes back to the store only to find a sleep-deprived Dae-Hyun. Thinking of hallucinating her, he confesses his feelings. The viewers get a flashback of their cute moments over the past 16 episodes. They then get close to having their kiss when they break the fourth wall and interact with the camera, giving the audience a giggly moment.

All of the actors, including the supporting ones, Lee Byung-Joon, Eum Moon-Suk, Kim Sun-Young, and others, gave their best performances. Ji Chang-Wook, Kim You-Jung, and Kim Min-Gue‘s love triangle was also loved by the viewers. But Chang-Wook and Kim You-Jung’s on-screen chemistry deserves to be mentioned. The 2020 K-drama, Backstreet Rookie will give you the young romance feelings.
