Heeramandi’s Taha Shah Badussha Reacts to Co-star Sharmin Segal’s Trolling

Netflix’s magnum opus Heeramandi: The Diamond Baazar is basking in the glory of its success. Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s period drama is receiving praise for its performances, storyline and cast. However, Sharmin Segal who plays the role of Alamzeb has been receiving immense social media criticism for her acting. The internet hasn’t been kind to Segal, with some users labeling her performance as ‘expressionless’. Taha Shah Badussha, who plays Tajdar in the series, recently shared his thoughts on the situation.

‘Audience can react in a very unpredictable way’: Heeramandi’s Taha Shah Badussha on Sharmin Segal trolling

In a recent conversation, Taha Shah Badussha disclosed his unawareness regarding the trolling targeted at Segal. He said in the interview that he did not know that she had opted to disable her comments section. Speaking in an interview with Zoom, Badussha defended Segal’s efforts, “I have worked with her and I do know as an actor she has tried her best. I literally felt that people would not give me any love, but not the way I am getting. So, the audience can react in a very unpredictable way, to be very honest,” he remarked.

Acknowledging the unpredictability of audience reactions, Badussha refrained from passing judgment on Segal’s performance, stating, “How it is perceived by the audiences is a different ball game altogether, and I can’t comment on that.” He further praised Segal’s commitment to her craft.

Moreover, Badussha urged against comparing Segal, a relatively new entrant in the industry, to seasoned actors such as Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, and Aditi Rao Hydari, who are part of the Heeramandi ensemble cast. “Of course, you can’t compare someone like her, and much newer than me, to Manisha (ma’am), Sonakshi Sinha or even Aditi,” he stated.

He further added, “Manisha ma’am has been there for ages. She has worked with the best of the best directors, and best of the best actors. So, people learn over time. I’m sure if the audience found fault in her, I’m sure she would do better. I know she wants to learn”.

Taha Shah Badussha’s remarks serve as a reminder of the challenges faced by emerging talents in the entertainment industry, while also advocating for understanding and encouragement rather than harsh criticism.
