Big Girls Don’t Cry release date, plot, cast, runtime & more

Big Girls Don’t Cry is premiering on March 14, 2024, only on Amazon Prime Video. The recently released trailer gave a tantalizing glimpse into the boarding life at Vandana Valley School.

Moreover, the series boasts a predominantly women-led ensemble cast. It has characters such as Noor aspiring for school captaincy, Ludo vying for the sports captaincy, and the rebel poet Dia contemplating boundary-breaking adventures.

The plot description from the platform reads, “The series takes audiences into the fascinating world of the prestigious Vandana Valley where a group of young girls navigate life’s myriad exhilarating adventures of independence, rebellion, friendship, love, heartbreaks, and dreams, as they challenge not only the norms of the school but society at large. Along the journey, each of them battles with an internal struggle to remain true to their own unique identities.”

Big Girls Don’t Cry is the brainchild of creator Nitya Mehra, who also co-directs alongside Sudhanshu Saria, Karan Kapadia, and Kopal Naithani. The stellar cast includes fresh faces you may or may not recognize from movies and series like Made In Heaven.

It includes Avantika Vandanapu (as Ludo), Akshita Sood (Dia), Dalai (Pluggy), Vidushi (Kavya), Lhakyila (JC), Aneet Padda (Roohi), and Afrah Sayed (Noor). Furthermore, viewers will see Pooja Bhatt, Raima Sen, and Zoya Hussain as the headmaster and teachers, respectively.

More details on the upcoming Amazon Prime series

Creator Nitya Mehra recently shared her inspiration behind Big Girls Don’t Cry. She emphasized that storytelling is underrepresented in school life in India, especially for girls. She envisioned the upcoming series as not just yet another boarding school drama. Instead, it is an authentic insight into young girls’ lives, ideas, and feelings forging their path in the world. The series celebrates girl gangs, sisterhood, and the empowering journey of self-discovery.

“It is an insight into the lives, ideas, and feelings of young girls who are carving a path for themselves, finding their way into this world, and doing so on their terms. Learning to overcome challenges and capitalize on opportunities, these girls are jet-setting on an enriching journey of self-discovery that will define who they are and what they’re made of,” she said about the series.

As a complement to the series, Prime Video recently launched the music album Big Girls Don’t Cry. This young-adult series promises a sonic treat with eight unique tracks, including a soulful song featuring Amit Trivedi and Mali. Moreover, the music album also serves as a celebration of friendship, sisterhood, and the power of self-expression.

Mark your calendars for March 14 as Big Girls Don’t Cry makes its global premiere on Amazon Prime Video. Nitya Mehra’s vision, stellar cast, and banger music make it a binge-worthy watch.
