Is Pindam Based on a True Story?

The Telugu film Pindam left the audience on the edge of their seats with its spine-chilling plot. The movie was released on December 15, 2023, and opened up to mixed reactions. Despite a section of the audience disliking the film, it managed to scare them. However, the scariest part about the movie is that it is based on a true story.

Sai Kiran Daida directed Pindam, while Kalaahi Media produced it. Srikanth Sriram and Kushee Ravi made their Telugu debut with the movie, while Easwari Rao, Srinivas Avasarala, Baby Leisha, and Baby Chaitra played supporting roles.

Pindam’s official synopsis reads, “The story is about a powerful spirit that has never seen the face of the earth, which starts to threaten the life of a six-year-old girl who is speaking/hearing impaired. In a state of helplessness, the family seeks the help of ‘Annamma’ who is an expert in these matters. Annamma starts to unfold the mysteries hidden in the house, and also finds out the real intention behind this spirit.”

What is Pindam’s real story?

According to a report by OTTplay, Pindam is based on a horrific incident that took place in a house in Nalgonda, Telangana, in the 1930s. In an interview, director Sai Kiran Daida revealed what inspired him to make the movie. As per telugu360.com, the director revealed that he grew up listening to the story about the incident.

During a media conversation, he said, “Very long time back, my grandmother narrated to me a spine-chilling story that happened sometime back in the Nalgonda district. It got deeply stuck in my brain. It was the most gruesome and horrifying incident ever. When I thought I should tell a story on the screen taking this incident as an example, I started adding more fictional elements. That is how Pindam came into the picture.”

The film’s story revolves around a family of four who move into a haunted house. After several incidents, they seek Annamma’s help. The film is currently available to stream on Amazon Prime Video and Aha.
