TV Recap: THE WALKING DEAD Season 6, Episode 10,

THE WALKING DEAD heats up in this time jumping episode.

There’s been a time jump ahead since Carl getting shot and the mayhem that consumed Alexandria. Rick is putting another notch in his belt, figuratively speaking and we see a picture with an eye patched Carl and Judith. It’s happy families in the Grimes family home when Michonne comes out of the bathroom in a robe asking Rick if there’s any toothpaste; we find out she’s been staying there for two weeks. It’s pretty interesting to see the domesticated side of Michonne. Is it more then a feeling?

Denise asks Daryl to get her pop not for herself but for Tara. It seems like Tara may have a thing for orange crush pop, she’s been talking about it in her sleep. The camera pans across the “In Our Memory” wall and we see the list getting longer. Eugene just wants Rick and Daryl to get Sorghum and Daryl probably doesn’t even know what that is. Daryl and Rick take off on their bromantical road trip to get supplies and find people in what almost feels like a Chrysler commercial (Great product placement lol). Rick and Daryl mention they haven’t seen anyone in weeks and Daryl doesn’t really mind. Daryl doesn’t dig Ricks choice of music but Rick doesn’t care and turns it up, to draw walkers away.

Michonne is back in Alexandria on watch and sees Spencer walk into the woods outside the walls of the community and she goes to investigate. Maggie asks Enid where she’s been since Glenn got home. Enid seems distant towards Maggie. Rick and Daryl spot a place that Eugene mentioned and find the mother Load. A fully packed truck of supplies that looks like food, supplies, important items and plenty of toothpaste. Looks like someone got this ready and never had a chance to pick it up. They take the truck and continue on their way looking for people and supplies, they stop at a gas station and a vending machine catches Daryl’s eye. Us viewers know he wants the pop inside for Denise but Rick doesn’t know why he’s going through the trouble of getting what’s inside.

A unidentified strange man in a long coat, toque and banana covering his face suddenly appears out of no where and purposely bumps into Rick; knocking Him into the vending machine. Comic fans already knew who this was even before his introduction. Paul “Jesus” Monroe; although he gives a different last name, Rovia he gives instead. In the comics Jesus is a very smart guy and very talented with hand to hand combat, which we get to see both in this episode many different times. Rick is willing to talk to him but Daryl doesn’t want any part of it and doesn’t seem to like him at all. Rick asks him about his camp and he claims to not have one. “This is the next world, I hope it’s good to you guys.” Jesus says as he goes to leave and Rick introduces himself to him. Rick goes to ask Jesus the three questions they use to judge if you can get into Being apart of the community but Jesus takes off.

Rick is on guard about Jesus and thinks there’s more to him then what he’s letting on. Rick wants to give him a chance but Daryl still doesn’t want any part of him. Suddenly loud gun shots seem to be firing behind them from behind the gas station. They go to check it out only to realize it’s firecrackers and that Jesus set them up. He stole the keys when he bumped into Rick and set them off as a distraction to steal the truck. Jesus takes off in the truck and burns rubber down the road. Spencer is in the woods looking for something and it seems to be closure. Just as a walker lunges for him and he goes to kill it, Michonne steps in and kills it with her katana. Michonne wants to know why he’s out there and he tells her he’s been taking walks after his shifts and she’s the first one to notice. She notices his shovel but he doesn’t answer why he has it. She mentions his mother Deanna and that she told her that she had to figure out what she wants. He asks if she did and she answers him and says she’s working up to it. She wants to know what’s going on and wants to keep him safe.

The sun is shining as Enid and Carl stroll through the Forrest together and they stumble across a deflated balloon with a note attached. Enid can’t make out the note because it got wet and the writing smudged. She can tell it’s not an old note and that she thinks by them doing this at least they are saying something. “We’re not alone”. She doesn’t get why her and Carl are going outside the walls anymore and he answers her by saying that they are kids and that’s what they do. She doesn’t seem to think they are kids anymore.

Rick and Daryl are not far behind Jesus and the stolen truck. Jesus unhooked the vending machine from the truck and left it in the middle of the road. Daryl breaks open the glass and reaches in to grab orange crush cans of pop, along with chips and chocolate bars. He tells Rick that the pop was a special request from the doctor and Rick agrees that she can have whatever she wants because she saved Carl. As they share a half empty can of orange crush Rick gives Daryl a speech about trusting people like they did with Denise and that there’s still good people out there they can trust. But now Rick is siding with Daryl about letting in this Jesus guy. Rick reaches into the vending machine quickly and grabs something and puts it in his pocket. Daryl and Rick begin following the trail again.

Carl and Enid continue their little date in the Forrest, Carl reads his invincible comic while Enid continues looking at the note she can’t read. They hear a rustle in the leaves and get up to check it out and they see that it’s Spencer and Michonne. Carl goes back to reading his comic and Enid tells him she doesn’t want to go outside the walls anymore. He immediately gets up and leaves, heading back towards Alexandria. As they make their way back, Carl sees a walker and wants to kill it because Michonne is out there and doesn’t want to risk her safety. The camera slowly pans from the walkers feet and up, you can see Carl’s reaction before you see the walkers face and you know he recognizes the walker. Enid is shocked and wants to kill it but Carl won’t let her, he wants to lead it somewhere. Carl tells Enid to leave and that he wants it alive and that she wouldn’t understand. Enid leaves and Carl stays with the walker.

Rick and Daryl continue to follow the trucks tread marks on the road and see that he blew a tire and is repairing it. They surround him by sneaking on each side of the Forrest and catch him off guard. Rick grabs Jesus from behind but Jesus is to strong and skilled in fighting for Rick to handle alone, Jesus breaks loose and puts up a good fight against Daryl and Rick but They pull their guns on him after pushing him to the ground. Jesus don’t think they have ammo but the prove it by both shooting an approaching walker. They don’t want to shoot him over stealing the truck they just want the keys back and to be on their way. Jesus tells them he’s not a bad guy and gives them the keys. Rick ties up Jesus and leaves him in the middle of the road. Rick doesn’t tie the knots to tight so he can get free long after they are gone. They get the truck back and Daryl says a charming good bye, “so long you prick”. As they drive away. Rick and Daryl snack on a chocolate bar as they spot another farm they can check out for supplies. Daryl hears something on the roof of the truck and Rick slams on the breaks making Jesus go flying from off the truck. Jesus runs away and Daryl and rick chase after, Daryl jumping out and Rick chasing along side in the truck. Rick gets out to help Daryl take him down but a bunch of walkers tied to a pickup truck come loose from their worn out rope, seems like it was set up that way on purpose as a decoy. Rick takes out the walkers as Daryl chases Jesus back to the truck and stops him from taking it again. Daryl and Jesus struggle, Daryl try’s pulling him out of the cab of the truck as a walker slowly creeps up behind Daryl. Jesus pulls a gun on Daryl and tells him to duck, killing the walker behind him just before it got to him. Daryl punches him and takes the gun, “thanks, my gun!” And takes his gun back from Jesus.  They struggle and Jesus knocks the parking break accidentally and they begin rolling backwards towards the lake. They both jump out of the moving truck before it hit the water but before Jesus could get out of the way in time, the truck door smacked him in the head knocking him out. The truck sinks into the lake and Daryl and Rick watch hopelessly as it fully submerges. Daryl is ready to leave and check the cars but Rick doesn’t want to leave Jesus. Rick says to Daryl that he saved him and never pulled a weapon on him before when he had the chance.

Meanwhile Michonne is still with Spencer walking in the Forrest and he doesn’t understand why she’s staying with him. She wants to protect him and keep her word to his mother, Deanna. He tells her she has a life back there and he doesn’t until he does what he has to do out there, before he can even think about that. Se wants to help him with whatever he needs to do but he tells her she can’t. Michonne and Spencer hear and see Carl running from a walker and once they can see the walker clearly they realize who it is. It’s Deanna, Spencer’s mom and that’s what Spencer has been looking for this entire time. His mother so that he can put her out of her misery and move on and get closure from her death. A snarling Deanna walker approaches Spencer and he move towards her, Michonne helps by holding her arms and he stabs his mom in the head from the back gently laying her down on the ground. It was such an emotional moment watching him give mercy to his mother and loosing her all over again. As Spencer holds her in his arms he tells Michonne that’s why he was out there. Spencer dug a grave for his mom by a tree and Michonne carved a D in it as a headstone. Spencer tells Michonne about the note she left for him before she died; she told him that he still knew his way and he doesn’t believe that. She reminded him that he still loved his family and that he knows his way and it’s home. She lets him know he still has family and a home.

Rick and Daryl are driving back to Alexandria with an unconscious Jesus tied up for Denise to check out his head from the hit. It seems like he may be playing possum. Rick says he’s finally listening, listening to what they’ve been trying to tell him all along. He wants to trust people and let them in and give them a chance. Day becomes night and we see Carl with Judith looking up at the stars together. Brother sister time and he gives her some brotherly advice. He tells her to always follow the North Star if she gets lost. Michonne walks in on this tender moment between them. Michonne wants to know why Carl did what he did with Deanna. She doesn’t get why he didn’t kill her and thinks he’s stupid for going out there even though she does the same thing by going out there and risking her life. He wasn’t going to leave her like that and he couldn’t kill her. Michonne asks him why and he answers I couldn’t; I wouldn’t and explains that it should be someone that loves her, someone that is family who does it. Carl was able to be the person to give mercy to his mother Lori and he wanted to do the same thing for spencer. carl knew it would help Spencer grieve and and help with the healing process like it did for him. “I’d do it for you” Carl tells Michonne, proving just how much he loves her and cares for her. Carl and Michonne share a hug and this shows us how close they’ve really come and how they are a family. Rick and Daryl make it back to Alexandria and Rick let’s Daryl know that the way he thought before about not letting others in was wrong. Rick tells Daryl he was the one who was right. Rick and Daryl carry Jesus over to Denise’s house to get his head checked out. They tie him up and put him in one of the homes to rest and heal. They keep him tied up and leave Jesus some water and a note. As Rick and Daryl leave Rick says to Daryl, “It is pretty stupid of us to go out there, is it.” “Yeah, do it again tomorrow?” Daryl asks. “Yep”.

Rick makes it back home after a long day. Rick and Michonne relax on the couch watching Judith on the baby monitor. They decide not to talk about their days with each other because they rather shut their brains off. Rick pulls out what he took from the vending machine earlier on and gives it to Michonne. It’s a pack of mints instead of the toothpaste she asked for. They hold hands for a brief moment, looking at each other lovingly, they share a kiss. The kiss turns into more kissing and kissing leads to, well you know. It’s morning and Rick and Michonne are in bed together in their birthday suits. “Rick! Rick wake up!” Michonne and Rick jump out of bed instinctively and pull their weapons on the one who woke them up, Jesus. Jesus sure got an eyeful and more then he bargained for. Ninja Jesus wants to talk to Rick, but what could it be about? There’s defiantly more to Jesus. Tune in next week to find out what’s up with him and who he really is.
