Ugandan exploitation film studio “Wakaliwood” brings its crazed cinema to Toronto, Hamilton, New York and Madrid.
First, stop everything and watch the trailer for the must-see action film of 2016: OPERATION KAKONGOLIRO! THE UGANDAN EXPENDABLES. Then freshen up on your spin kicks because Ugandas Wakaliwood, the craziest DIY action cinema on the planet, is undertaking an eclectic mini-tour of Toronto and Hamilton, Ontario, Schenectady, New York, and Madrid, Spain. All four |supa screenings” will be hosted by Wakaliwood actor/producer Alan Ssali Hofmanis (aka Commando Jesus), Wakaliwood enforcer Ebola Hunter, and Gen. Segwanye, the killer gourd.
WTF are we talking about? Watch this tour promo video:
Wakaliwood is home to da best of da best movies! Under the guidance of writer/director/producer/editor Nabwana IGG and his company Ramon Film Productions, this crack crew of self-taught filmmakers and kung fu gurus have made over 40+ frenetically joyous action films in the ghetto outside Kampala, Uganda. Their slogan is Expect the Unexpectable!
The trailer for Wakaliwoods breakout hit WHO KILLED CAPTAIN ALEX? Ugandas First Action Movie, went viral with over 2.5 million YouTube views. Made for less than $200 using real blood and a modified car jack for a tripod, the all-Ugandan cast & crew channel their love for Bruce Lee, Chuck Norris, and American 80s action movies into a bloody Commando vs. Mafia epic that features the countrys top self-taught martial artists.
Since then, Wakaliwood has been featured in VICE, BBC, FANGORIA, Al-Jazeera, the Russian GQ, Playboy, and more. Bizarre, funny, ultra-violent and definitely unique, these films feature amazing props built from scrap metal (including a full size Huey helicopter!), play-by-play running commentary tracks from Video Joker VJ Emmie, extreme kung fu action and gloriously cheap CG explosions. Wakaliwood has more heart, grit and soul than 1,000 Marvel clunkers.
This weeks Toronto event marks the first time in history that a Wakaliwood rep is present to host an international screening, and for the special occasion there will be extended work-in-progress clips from films never before seen outside of Uganda, including crime epic BAD BLACK, cannibal opus EATEN ALIVE IN UGANDA, and THE CRAZY WORLD (featuring the Waka Starz Wakaliwoods kung fu kids).
Anyone with doubts, heres what happened when Wakaliwood invaded Montreals Fantasia International Film Festival in the summer of 2015. Highly recommended. IF YOU MISS YOU DIE!
