Justice League Dark: Guillermo del Toro Reportedly Not Directing

There was to have been a Justice League Dark film directed by Guillermo del Toro. Like many fantasy-horror films to be directed by the highly in-demand fantasy-horror filmmaker, it likely won’t shake out.

del Toro, the director behind Pan’s LabyrinthPacific Rim and this fall’s anticipated Crimson Peak is often attached to many a genre film, and just as often unattached to them. THR, in their story of Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s developing Sandman moving to New Line, reports:

Dark, the adaptation, was to have been directed by Guillermo del Toro, but insiders say the filmmaker, who is working on a sequel to Pacific Rim even as he preps his gothic horror movie Crimson Peak, is no longer attached to the project.

Justice League Dark is envisioned as a film that sees the gnarlier characters from the dark side of the DCU, such as John Constantine, Zatanna, Deadman, and Swamp Thing, come together to stop an ultimate evil. It is unsurprising del Toro would no longer be on board, considering his busy plate. Let’s hope he hasn’t abandoned the “really, really bizarre” small black-and-white film he plans to shoot before Pacific Rim 2.
