Blumhouse Productions, the seemingly omnipresenters of current studio horror are teaming with director Harald Zwart (The Karate Kid 2010, The Mortal Instruments) for a family-oriented horror film.
Though details, including plot, arent revealed, THR reports the script for the family film comes from R. Ben Garant. Garant is likely best known as the screenwriting partner of Thomas Lennon. The two co-created Reno! 911, co-wrote and co-directed Hell Baby and were co-creators on cult comedy series The State. Theyve penned a slate of family comedies in between edgier fare and Garant recently wrote Blumhouse horror Jessabelle, solo.
Again, no word on the films story, but hopefully Jason Blum, Zwart, Garant & Co. are aiming for a sweet spot along the lines of The Monster Squad, a film that can act as a cool gateway for kids developing interest in cool stuff like creatures and monsters and horror.
