New Ghostbusters Lineup Just About Set

After years of development and false starts, the long-gestating third Ghostbusters film has begun to truly take shape. Bridesmaids’ Paul Feig is helming and the team, refreshingly and in perfect accordance with his filmography, has been envisioned as all female. Now, that team is just about set, with some of the funniest contemporary performers we’ve got. 

THR is reporting that Feig has cast SNL breakout Leslie Jones, Melissa McCarthy, SNL’s Kate McKinnon and Kristen Wiig as the new proton pack-carrying crew. Variety additionally reports another Saturday Night Live cast member is in the mix, with the great Cecily Strong apparently up for the role of a government official (Variety also says Ivan Reitman is directing and apparently thinks Jillian Bell is McKinnon, so who knows).

Director Feig has seemingly confirmed at least the foursome, tweeting out the above image. He previously noted that he’d like the film be properly “scary.” Katie Dippold is co-writing, and the film is expected to shoot this summer in New York.
