Eli Roth Doesn’t Consider Knock, Knock a Horror Film

On the Nerdist podcast over the summer, Roth expressed how quickly the production moved and he was hoping to perhaps get it ready for the Toronto International Film Festival. (That did not happen for whatever reason, obviously.)  The film is said to find Reeves playing a married man whose family is out of town. His life takes a terrifying turn when two women show up at his house.

In a recent print edition of Rue Morgue Magazine that I picked up that features an interview with Roth, I spied an interesting blurb about Knock, Knock. Describing the movie, he says…

It’s tense and scary, but it’s not a horror film. It’s just a different type of story. I don’t want people to watch it thinking it’s a horror film. I wanted to make that tense Fatal Attraction/Roman Polanski film where it’s going to be disturbing and twisted but in much different ways than people have seen from me before.

I wonder if that means it’ll be decidedly gore-free…

Also in the interview, Roth says they’re currently scripting Beyond the Green Inferno, but whether it gets made or not is contingent on how The Green Inferno performs. The film was due in theaters September 5th. It was delayed due to some behind-the-scenes legal matters between distributor Open Road Films and Green Inferno‘s financiers.
