Keanu Reeves wastes a lot of fools very quickly in this month’s hard-hitting action thriller John Wick, but he might be in for a slow death in Eli Roth’s next torture porn effort Knock Knock.
While not quite a knockoff (pun intended), Roth’s home invasion thriller sounds like it takes a page or two from the Funny Games playbook (but with a sexy twist), similar to how his The Green Inferno borrowed much from Cannibal Holocaust. Listen to Reeves describe the plot to us during our exclusive 1-on-1 during the John Wick Junket.
While his cannibal film The Green Inferno toured the film festival circuit, director Eli Roth took the earlier part of this year to helm Knock Knock in Chile. Penned by Roth, Nicolas Lopez and Guillermo Amoedo, the film found the helmer of Cabin Fever and Hostel working with Keanu Reeves as well as Lorenza Izzo and Ana de Armas.
On the Nerdist podcast over the summer, Roth expressed how quickly the production moved and he was hoping to perhaps get it ready for the Toronto International Film Festival. (That did not happen for whatever reason, obviously.) The film is said to find Reeves playing a married man whose family is out of town. His life takes a terrifying turn when two women show up at his house.
It’s a busy year for Eli Roth. In addition to seeing his latest directorial effort, The Green Inferno, hit theaters on September 5th, he’s getting back behind the camera for Knock Knock, starring Keanu Reeves, Lorenza Izzo and Ana de Armas. On top of that, Roth is also going to produce a supernatural thriller.
Before he embarks on his promotional campaign for The Green Inferno later this year, Eli Roth will helm Knock Knock, the film we learned about in February.
Cameras roll on the 13th of this month in Chile and, today, Deadline learned Keanu Reeves (!) will star. Lorenza Izzo, of Aftershock and The Green Inferno, and Ana de Armas are co-starring.
This has been an eventful week for two directors that were deemed “splat pack” members several years back. Yesterday, we learned Rob Zombie’s next film will find the helmer going back to the horror genre. Today, the first details for Eli Roth’s new film have struck.
Production is expected to begin this April on Knock Knock, reports The Wrap. Roth will direct from a script he penned with Nicolas Lopez and Guillermo Amoedo. He’ll also produce with Colleen Camp.
