Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones’ Box Office Numbers Are In

The spin-off opened at number two, grossing an estimated $18.2 million.  It’s the first in the franchise to not open at number one during its three-day debut.  The fifth film in the series is also the first to open in January; all of the other entries enjoyed their success in October and have opened to higher numbers.

So, what does this mean?  Well, it was an interesting experiment for Blumhouse and Paramount.  One that paid off, of course, since the budget for The Marked Ones was ridiculously low.  However, the film’s Cinemascore – which is given by the general audience – was a C-.  Is there “Paranormal” fatigue?  Maybe.  How much of the East Coast’s severe weather impacted the box office?  Well, other films suffered as well so, yes, weather was an issue.

The series isn’t over yet.  Paranormal Activity 5, from director Gregory Plotkin, opens October 24th.
