The tour had already been well underway when I dropped in. Producer Jason Blum, of Blumhouse Productions, was showing it off to various college towns. To me, this maneuver evoked a rather old school spirit – a time when filmmakers and distributors would take their film reels and move from city to city showing their picture off.
The video below details night one of my time on the tour where The Purge descended on a theater audience full of NYU students. For kicks, I spoke with some of those in line to pick their brain about the film’s themes. And later, I caught up to Blum – who co-produced the project with the team at Platinum Dunes – to discuss the mechanics of the film tour, the reaction, the importance of listening to the fans and more.
