Filmmaker Jess Franco has died at the age of 82. Born Jesus Franco Manera, the Spanish director would go on work on over 200 films. His feature debut came in 1959 with We Are 18 Years Old, however, he is best known for his contributions to genre cinema.
Franco would go on to direct films like The Awful Dr. Orlof, Vampyros Lesbos, A Virgin Among the Living Dead. That’s just the tip of the iceberg.
His stuff was definitely an acquired taste, yet you had to admire his wild vision and enthusiasm for independent cinema.
