There’s a novel hitting the market on March 4, 2013 entitled The Demonologist and it’s already getting Hollywood’s attention. Universal picked up the screen rights to Andrew Pyper’s unpublished tale which, according to Vulture, “follows a Columbia University professor who specializes in demonic literature but himself is a profound skeptic of the occult. But when his 12-year-old daughter winds up in the grip of the actual underworld, he must use his expertise in the signs and symbols of Miltons Paradise Lost as a guide to rescue her.”
The site reports playwright Robert Schenkkan has been hired by the studio to tackle the adaptation. He won a Pulitzer for his play The Kentuck Cycle and he also carries an acting career (a few movies worth noting: Pump Up the Volume and The Manhattan Project).
Schenkkan also scripted the Spartacus and The Adromeda Strain TV movies.
