Eli Roth to Direct a Dracula Film…With Russell Crowe?

Currently in production on Hemlock Grove for Netflix, Eli Roth is looking ahead to his next feature film.  There’s The Green Inferno, a cannibal film which he is expected to shoot this fall.  Then there is Harker.  What’s that?  you ask.  It’s another take on the Dracula legend.  Deadline reports Roth is in talks to direct for Warner Bros.

Harker was first announced in early 2011; the project now reportedly has Russell Crowe attached to play Dracula.  If Roth does come aboard to direct, he’ll be reunited with Hemlock Grove scribe Brian McGreevy, who co-penned Harker with Lee Shipman.

The film envisions Jonathan Harker as a Scotland Yard detective who is hot on the trailer of the famous bloodsucker.  “Franshise” is a word that’s being bandied about, with the first film being all about Harker versus Dracula.  Future films would find Harker on other cases.  My two cents?  Shipman and McGreevy better craft a pretty damn memorable Harker for audiences to want to follow him through multiple films.

Roth recently worked with Crowe on The Man With the Iron Fists, which Roth produced and penned.
