It seems MGM isn’t playing around with their new RoboCop film. They’re already got Joel Kinnaman playing Alex Murphy with Gary Oldman and Samuel L. Jackson set to accompany him. Now, according to Deadline, they’ve tagged Abbie Cornish to take on the female lead in the film and it’s not who you would expect. Instead of Murphy’s former partner Anne Lewis, she’ll actually be playing the wife of Alex Murphy who assumes after his death that she is a widow.
A reboot of the 1987 Paul Verhoeven film, RoboCop will again tell the story of a police officer who, after nearly being killed in the line of duty, is rebuilt as a crime-fighting cyborg. The original film spawned two sequels and multiple television series spinoffs.
RoboCop is scheduled to hit theaters on August 9, 2013.
