The X-Files producer and writer Frank Spotnitz was recently interviewed by Screen Daily about his latest UK series, Hunter (starring Melissa George). Naturally, he was asked about the possibility of another X-Files film – not so much a follow-up to 2008’s The X-Files: I Want to Believe, but a story that would pick up where The X-Files: Fight the Future left off. Here is what he had to say…
“There is a very active and relentless fan campaign for a last movie. I do feel like it would be a terrible shame if that didnt happen. It feels wrong not to give it an ending around the alien colonisation of earth. David [Duchovny] and Gillian [Anderson] feel the same. I have a clear idea of how it would go and Ive been talking to Chris Carter about it for a long time. Ill keep banging the drum whenever I meet the Fox guys [the studio holds the sequel rights but was disappointed by the originals lackluster box office].”
The X-Files‘ time may have passed, folks. I wouldn’t hold on to much hope for another film.
