Magnolia Scoops Up VHS At Sundance

The latest genre film to debut at Sundance this month and be rewarded with distribution is VHS.  The Hollywood Reporter broke the news overnight that Magnolia Pictures will distribute the film.

VHS first played to Sundance audiences over the weekend.  Reports from one screening said the film drove one viewer to faint.

Magnolia will roll the flick out on VOD first and follow that 30 days later with a significant theatrical run, akin to the company’s past releases like The Innkeepers.

Directed by Adam Wingard, Ti West, David Bruckner, Glenn McQuaid, Joe Swanberg and Radio Silence,  VHS concerns a group of misfits who are hired by an unknown third party to burglarize a desolate house and acquire a rare VHS tape; there, they discover more found footage than they bargained for.
