Lords of Salem Heavy on Practical FX

“Insane shit” on the way

Rob Zombie has always been a staunch supporter of practical FX in all of his on-screen efforts, relying on the craftsmanship of Wayne Toth and his team. Lords of Salem will not be any different.

Answering questions via his blog, Zombie tells his fans that, “At this time there are no plans to use any CGI in LORDS. I am not a fan of it although I think it can be very effective it used in very subtle ways. But no one uses it that way.”

He goes on to add, “We have begun working, but not shooting yet. This is a very practical FXs [sic] heavy film, so that department has been working for awhile building insane shit. I will start after the summer. No one is on board yet, but casting will start very soon.”

Zombie has been updating from Toth’s FX shop and posting images. You can see some here and here.

Synopsis: Heidi, a blond rock chick, DJs at a local radio station, and together with the two Hermans (Whitey and Munster) forms part of the “Big H Radio Team.”

A mysterious wooden box containing a vinyl record arrives for Heidi, a gift of the Lords. She assumes it’s a rock band on a mission to spread to spread their word. As Heidi and Whitey play the Lord’s record, it starts to play backwards, and Heidi experiences a flashback to a past trauma.

Later, White plays the Lord’s record, dubbing them the Lords of Salem, and to his surprise, the record plays normally and is a massive hit with his listeners.

The arrival of another wooden box from the Lords presents the Big H team with free tickets, posters and records to host a gig in Salem. Soon, Heidi and her cohorts are far from the rock spectacle they’re expecting. The original Lords or Salem are returning and they’re out for blood.
