Producer speaks out on sequel talk
We wanted to wait until some sort of official statement was made before even mentioning this, and one has come in.
Various outlets were running with the news, broken by Dread Central, that Tim Burton was developing a sequel to the beloved A Nightmare Before Christmas, the animated film that slowly developed an audience and ultimately became a merchandise cash cow for Disney.
There’s no link to the original interview in DC’s report, but they say Paul Reubens (aka Pee Wee Herman) dropped the news during a discussion with an unnamed interviewer.
Producer Derek Frey, who is housed at Tim Burton Productions, tells the Playlist there is “no truth to the rumor.” Burton is too busy overseeing Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and Dark Shadows at the moment.
