New Director Found For The Orphanage Remake

Who’s helming the Spanish ghost story?

Back in November, we’d heard rumblings that filmmaker Larry Fessenden was no longer attached to direct the American remake of Juan Antonio Bayona’s The Orphanage. (El Orfanato)

Now, Variety reports that Mark Pellington (The Mothman Prophecies, Arlington Road) is in final negotiations to direct from a script by producer Guillermo del Toro and Fessenden. (Del Toro served as creative supervisor on the 2007 original.)

The original Orphanage stars Belen Rueda (The Sea Inside) as a woman who takes over the orphanage where she was raised, to open a home for disabled children. Then her young son begins to play with the same imaginary friend who terrorized her when she was a child.

No production start date yet but we’ll keep you posted.
