The new IFC webseries premiering Oct. 26th!
Back in September, it was announced that filmmaker Ti West would be debuting a new webseries titled Dead & Lonely on IFC.com starting October 26th. The series stars Justin Rice (Mutual Appreciation, Alexander The Last) and Paige Stark and brings the classic vampire love story to the modern Internet dating age.
We asked West how exactly he came to do a webseries as a follow-up to The House Of The Devil. “I worked on a friend of mineâs web series and I had such a good time doing it that I thought Iâd really like to try one of these. I wanted to do something episodic and a little bit different and so I went to IFC and pitched it to them and they liked it. This was my chance to do something episodic with cliffhangers, so itâs five 5-minute episodes.”
When asked if the current vampire craze helped on his pitch, he tells Shock, “I think thatâs the reason I was able to get to do this web series so easily is because of the sudden vampire craze, and Iâm fine with that. But itâs not what youâd think â itâs horror-ish. Itâs more of a awkward situational comedy. It has a Risky Business/Tangerine Dream tone to it. The vampire thing got my foot in the door, but I just liked this idea.”
“Itâs called Dead and Lonely because itâs about this guy who breaks up with his girlfriend and then meets another girl via this on-line dating site and this vampire may be looking around for people, but she’s also lonely in her own right. So thereâs just themes in there that I wanted to explore.”
West couldn’t be more happy with the collaboration with IFC on the project. “Theyâve been incredibly supportive and really great people,” he gushes. “Theyâve even made a viral website called Date Or Die.net thatâs an on-line dating site that they made for the movie since thatâs the one she uses. Iâm psyched about it.”
