What Works About the Official Daybreakers Poster

And what doesn’t?

A clever tagline accompanies the official one-sheet art for Daybreakers: “In 2019, the most precious natural resource…is us.”

It’s set against what we presume is a blood harvesting plant for the film’s vampire population (which now dominates the world). The image is awe-inspiring, if nothing new (basically a riff off of what we saw in Blade: Trinity), and it’s a design with scope – a bit different than what we’ve come to expect from Lionsgate’s one-sheets which usually focus on an individual or object (from Saw to My Bloody Valentine).

But for a vampire film, this is wildly different than the teaser one-sheet which I took a liking to for its simplicity. It reminded me a bit of the original Fearless Vampire Killers design. This latest poster doesn’t hint at bloodsuckers in the slightest and screams sci-fi in the Matrix-y sort of way. It’s an interesting image and for that I give it kudos; but I don’t think it works in selling the film which stars Ethan Hawke, Sam Neill, Willem Dafoe and Claudia Karvan.
