Sarmiento, Harel Enter Murk for Gold Circle

Deadgirl picked up by Dark Sky Films

Here’s a one-two punch o’ news regarding Deadgirl helmers Marcel Sarmiento and Gadi Harel (interview). First, their controversial indie opus which played to Toronto Int’l Film Fest goers has been picked up by Dark Sky Films. Written by Trent Haaga, the film will open sometime in 2009. Second, Sarmiento and Harel, for their next endeavor, are hopping in the sack with Gold Circle films for Murk, a remake of the 2005 Danish thriller. The pair have signed to write and direct the story of a journalist investigating the death of his sister on her wedding night and the disappearance of her fiance. Jannik Johansen directed the original and co-wrote with Anders Thomas Jensen.

Jensen’s most recent credit include Antichrist, the new horror film from Lars Von Trier.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sarmiento and Harel will add “a high-tech twist to the update” of Murk. Gold Circle president Paul Brooks will produce alongside Bridge Films president Matthew Riklin. Scott Niemeyer and Norm Waitt will executive produce.
