Scribe in a Race to Halt Death

Suing Paul W.S. Anderon’s remake

Writer Adam Stone filed a copyright infringement suit against the makers of the upcoming Death Race. He says it bears remarkable similarities to his script Joust which Stone once pitched to Race‘s director Paul W.S. Anderson and producer Jeremy Bolt.

Stone is seeking a court order to stop the film’s release this Friday. According to THR, Stone claims that after the producers passed, Bolt made and kept a copy of of the Joust screenplay to use as a “blueprint” for Anderson’s revision of the script for Death Race, a remake of Roger Corman’s Death Race 2000.

So just how similar are the two scripts supposed to be? Well, Stone’s lawsuit says there are “39 elements” in Anderson’s Race that reflect what is in Joust. How much he is suing for is unknown and Universal reps are declining to comment at this time.
