Paul Bartel’s 1975 cult classic Death Race 2000 gets a 2008 jolt in Paul W.S. Anderson’s Death Race. The locale of the game is different but the conceit is the same: Race. Kill. Simple enough, right? Jason Statham (Crank) stars as Jensen Ames, a race car driver who is framed for murder, tossed in the slammer and forced into the titular game. Donning the moniker “Frankenstein,” and wearing a metallic visage, Ames races for freedom…so he thinks. Tyrese Gibson, Joan Allen and Ian McShane star.
