Win a Double Pass to Canada’s Deep Cut Film Fest

Deep Cut: New Canadian genre film fest goes down June 17th in Kitchener, Ontario

There are so many genre film festivals around the world that only the savviest scribe could dare keep count and Canada is no exception, with well-hyped fests like Toronto After Dark and Blood in the Snow standing as the juggernauts. But there’s a myriad smaller, weirder horror and fantasy festivals in towns and cities well away from the big cities and one of the latest, Kitchener’s Deep Cut Film Fest, a one day blow-out of oddball short and feature genre pics. Deep Cut goes down at Kitchener, Ontario’s Registry Theater downtown on June 17th and we have 2 double passes for the fest to giveaway to readers in the Ontario, Canada regions. Read on to figure out how…

Deep Cut aims to bring patrons the best films from around the world as well as highlight some locally-produced productions from Southern Ontario.  They are all-genre fest, with dramas, documentaries, road movies, comedies, experimental, and animated films all represented. Though horror, of course, makes up a bulk of their beat.

Festival founder David Briggs explains that the Deep Cut Film Festival “strives to highlight films that are a little unusual, that exist somewhat on the fringe of contemporary cinema. The name says it all, we want to screen films that are like the deep cut on your favorite record, the track that everyone loves once they hear it, but doesn’t catch the attention of the mainstream.”

Tickets are $15 and are available through Eventbrite. Visit DeepCutfilmsite.com and sign up for the mailing list to receive a code to save 20% off the purchase price.

They are screening mostly short films, with one feature presentation. The day is organized into five blocks of films. A $15 ticket will get you in to any and all shows. The films in the fest include John Nicol’s Channel Zero, Ozlem Altingoz’s Daughter of the Lake (pictured above), Richard Lukacs’ Hell Haunt and dozens more jammed into the all-day fest.
