Why Is She-Ra and the Princesses of Power Leaving Netflix & When?

Netflix is set to lose one of its most celebrated animated reboots as She-Ra and the Princesses of Power prepares to exit the platform in early 2026. The move has surprised fans, especially given the show’s strong critical reception and cultural impact. While the series is branded as a Netflix Original, the reason behind its removal comes down to licensing, not popularity.

When is She-Ra and the Princesses of Power leaving Netflix and why?

The animated series is officially packing its bags and leaving Netflix on February 21, 2026. The exit is part of a bigger February content shake-up on the platform, with dozens of movies and shows getting pulled as licensing deals run out. What’s raising eyebrows is that some of the titles on the chopping block are labeled as Netflix Originals, proof that “original” doesn’t always mean forever (via Collider).

She-Ra and the Princesses of Power first dropped in 2018 as a fresh, modern spin on the 1985 Filmation classic She-Ra: Princess of Power, itself a spinoff of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.

Produced by DreamWorks Animation Television, the reboot follows Adora, voiced by Aimee Carrero, a soldier raised by the Horde who stumbles upon a magical sword that turns her into the legendary hero She-Ra.

The show scored major love for its storytelling, standout voice acting, and inclusive representation. The voice cast is stacked, featuring A.J. Michalka, Karen Fukuhara, Marcus Scribner, and Lorraine Toussaint.

Critics were all in too; the series sits at an impressive 96% critics’ score and an 84% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Awards buzz followed, with nominations from GLAAD and the Daytime Emmys, plus a GLAAD Media Award win in 2021.

Series creator ND Stevenson spoke out about the removal on X (formerly Twitter), explaining that Netflix was only the exclusive distributor, not the actual rights holder. “Years of hard work by many talented crews have ended up without a home,” Stevenson wrote, adding that the decision was completely out of the team’s hands. Stevenson urged fans to rewatch the series while it’s still streaming and shared hope that it could eventually find a new platform or finally get a full physical release.
