Scarlett Johansson’s Lucy is set to leave Netflix next month. According to What’s On Netflix, the sci-fi thriller will depart the streaming platform on August 1, 2026, giving subscribers only a limited time left to watch it.
Written and directed by Luc Besson, Lucy was released in theaters on July 25, 2014. The film follows Lucy Miller, an American student living in Taipei whose life changes after she is forced to work for a violent criminal organization. A synthetic drug called CPH4 is surgically implanted inside her body for smuggling.
However, when the package ruptures, the drug enters her bloodstream and dramatically enhances her cognitive abilities, giving her extraordinary control over her mind and body. As Lucy’s powers continue to evolve, she realizes the transformation cannot be stopped.
She seeks the help of renowned neuroscientist Professor Samuel Norman to understand the effects. At the same time, Mr. Jang and his men pursue her across Europe in an order to recover the drug.
Johansson leads the cast as Lucy Miller. Other includes Morgan Freeman as Professor Samuel Norman, Choi Min-sik as Mr. Jang, Amr Waked as French police captain Pierre Del Rio, and Pilou Asbæk as Richard among others.
Lucy received mixed reviews upon release. The film holds a 67 percent critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 234 reviews. Meanwhile, its audience rating stands at 47 percent, reflecting a poorer response among viewers.
Despite the divided critical response, the sci-fi action film was a major commercial success. According to Box Office Mojo, it grossed more than $458 million worldwide. This includes approximately $126 million from domestic markets and over $332 million internationally.
