Kate Hudson responded to criticism from Michael Sardina Jr., the son of late musician Mike Sardina, over her biopic Song Sung Blue. She declined to share her personal views on the controversy, saying she was not the right person to comment. Michael Jr. previously criticized the musical biopic and said it damaged his father’s legacy. He also labeled the film “all lies,” though he acknowledged that some viewers found it touching.

In a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, Hudson responded to Michael Jr.’s “monsters” remark about Song Sung Blue, which stars her alongside Hugh Jackman. She said, “Honestly, I don’t even know. Out of respect for our filmmakers, I’m not the right person to speak to it.” However, Hudson noted that she had the opportunity to meet the real-life Claire Sardina and spoke positively about that experience. “I’m so happy that I got to know Claire, who’s such a wonderful woman, and she’s so happy with the movie,” she added.
Hudson’s comments come amid Michael Jr.’s criticism of the musical biopic, which he claims ruined his father’s legacy. In a Daily Mail interview, he said the film “completely destroyed the one thing my father worked his entire life to pass on, his legacy.” He added, “I want the true story out there and I want it used with truth, with dignity, and I want retribution,” before stating, “My father’s rolling in his grave right now.”
Michael Jr. also criticized Hudson and Jackman for allegedly failing to acknowledge him during the film’s promotional tour. He said he played a significant role in his father’s life and should not have been left out.
“Every interview that those monsters have been on national television, they don’t even mention my existence at all, even though I was the most prevalent force in my father’s life, even when I wasn’t in Wisconsin, because I’m his only son,” he said. “They didn’t even try to contact me. They didn’t try to get more information, they could have very easily asked Craig Brewer.”
