Beyond the Gates is doubling down on star power for its sophomore season. After bringing in Greg Vaughan, the show is adding even more star power with a Daytime Emmy-winning name. Jordi Vilasuso, widely known for playing Rey Rosales on The Young and the Restless, is officially heading back to daytime TV. His casting signals another big swing as the drama prepares for its second season.
Jordi Vilasuso returns to soap with Beyond the Gates Season 2
Jordi Vilasuso’s arrival was teased in Beyond the Gates Season 2 promo, which shares just enough to spark curiosity without spilling the tea. In a quick glimpse, he’s shown sharing a scene with Ashley, played by Jen Jacob. The show has confirmed his appearance in the upcoming season by showing him in the promo, but is keeping details locked tight about the character.
The actor’s soap career stretches back more than 20 years, starting in 2000 when he made waves as Tony Santos on Guiding Light. That role even landed him a Daytime Emmy in 2003 for Outstanding Younger Actor. After exiting the show later that year, he kept his soap streak alive by playing Griffin Castillo on All My Children from 2010 to 2011. He stepped back into the role once more when the series briefly returned online in 2013.
After that, Vilasuso joined the lineup of Days of Our Lives as Dario Hernandez from 2016 to 2017. His biggest and most recognizable role came soon after on The Young and the Restless, where he played Miami detective Rey Rosales from 2018 to 2022. Rey’s love story with Sharon Newman, portrayed by Sharon Case, quickly won over fans, making his shocking on-screen death all the more heartbreaking.
After leaving The Young and the Restless, Vilasuso reflected on his time as Rey Rosales earlier. While speaking with Soap Opera Digest, he called the four-year run “an incredible experience” that brought him “immense joy as an actor.” He also praised head writer and executive producer Josh Griffith for providing him with storylines that became “some of the highlights of my career in this genre.”
