Has It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia Season 18 Been Canceled or Renewed?

After the last episode of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, fans are wondering if Season 18 is still happening. It is one of the longest-running series for FX/FXX that has kept its momentum to this day. With an epic season finale, what does the future of the show look like?

Here’s what we know and what Danny DeVito had to say about the fate of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia Season 18 and beyond.

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia Season 18 canceled?

Ever since its premiere in 2005, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia has maintained a steady viewership. People returned every year to see the story of four friends. They witness it as they navigate their lives with wacky and questionable antics. The show aired its season finale, The Golden Bachelor Live, on August 20, 2025. With no premiere date announced, viewers are eager to know whether Season 18 will be renewed or canceled.

Variety reported that the show secured renewal for at least 18 seasons back in 2020. This means that the next season could be the last. Currently, there is no news of renewal or cancellation after the said season. The network has guaranteed fans at least one more season. What lies beyond that?

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, actor Danny DeVito, who plays Frank on the show, talks about the future of the show. He said, “Well, as long as we have a good ending — I don’t know what the ending could be, they probably have one already figured out in their head. It would be hard to let go, but if it’s right and the audience is happy with it, then I think it’s a good thing to do.”

He ends the interview by saying, “When Sunny comes to an end, we’ll know it and we’ll all embrace it. We really dig each other, and we’ll always work together.”

We have yet to see if the show will go on beyond Season 18. As for the next season’s release date, it could take another year and a half or two if you go by the gap between the last two seasons.
