Apple iPhone users are looking to remove iOS 26 beta and switch back to iOS 18. Early adopters of Apple’s iOS 26 and iPadOS 26 betas are reportedly encountering significant problems. Social media users have complained of app crashes, battery drainage issues, and system instability.
How to remove iOS 26 beta from iPhone
If you have experienced any functionality issues with iOS 26 beta versions, removing the new update and downgrading to iOS 18 could solve some of the functionality problems.
Before removing iOS 26, tech experts advise that users make a backup of their current storage, as you will need to essentially erase the content and restore the device. Once users have ensured that a proper backup is in place, they can delete the beta profile from Settings > General > VPN & Device Management.
Alternatively, they can restore their device using a computer with iTunes or Finder, which requires a recent backup. The process involves connecting the device, putting it in recovery mode, and selecting “Restore” to downgrade to the current stable iOS version.
To “Restore” your iPhone, first plug your device into your Mac or computer. Then press and release the volume up button, and repeat the same process with the volume down button. Next, you need to press and hold the side button. Let go of the side button when the recovery mode screen appears.
Once the “Restore” option appears on your Mac or computer screen, click it to begin the process. Your computer will erase the update and automatically install the current stable iOS version (currently iOS 18.5).
Users need to remember that restoration might accidentally fail at times, which would lead the device to exit recovery mode. If you encounter a similar issue, it’s better to allow the download to complete, then re-enter recovery mode and retry the process.
Sometimes, iPhone users might also experience specific error codes during restoration. For any error-related concerns, it is best to consult Apple’s support documentation for targeted troubleshooting steps.
After setting up your iPhone to the recent iOS update, users can also opt out of future beta installations. To do that, go to Settings > General > Software Update > Beta Updates. Make sure to turn this off to avoid reinstalling the beta versions in the future.
